In the French documentary "To be and to have" a.k.a. Etre et Avoir, M. Lopez teaches students ranging from 4-10, in a rural school house in France. I think this film really shows the natural progression of how French is taught to native speakers. As a second language teacher I feel sometimes the systems of conjugation and memorization that we use don't always work because its not as natural as first language learning. This film really gave me a lot of insight into not only French language teaching but how language instruction should be taught in a way to provide negotiation and playing with different forms. What I love most about this film is the community Lopez builds with his students and the life lessons he teaches.
